What a keratin treatment does

Keratin is the protein your hair is already made of. A keratin treatment coats each strand with a keratin-rich formula and seals it with heat, laying the cuticle flat.

What you notice first is the blow-dry. Hair that took forty minutes takes fifteen. Frizz stops happening. Curl loosens by roughly a third to a half, depending on your hair — it relaxes rather than removes texture.

Who it suits

  • Thick, frizz-prone hair that fights you every morning
  • Wavy or loosely curly hair you want easier to manage, not straight
  • Anyone spending too long with a hairdryer and straightener
  • Hair that goes frizzy the moment the weather turns

If your hair is badly damaged rather than unruly, hair botox is the better starting point — it repairs first.

What happens on the day

  • Consultation. We assess texture, density, colour history and how straight you actually want to go.
  • Clarifying wash. Opens the cuticle so the keratin can bond.
  • Application. Worked through in fine sections for even coverage.
  • Heat sealing. Blow-dried and flat-ironed section by section — this is what locks it in.
  • Finish. You leave with it done, not with instructions to wait.

How long it lasts

Three to five months for most people. It fades gradually as it washes out, so there is no hard regrowth line. How you wash it decides which end of that range you land on.

Aftercare

Sulphate-free shampoo is not optional — sulphates strip keratin out and will cost you weeks. Salt water and chlorine do the same. Your stylist will tell you how long to wait before the first wash for the formula used on your hair.

Common questions

Will my hair be dead straight?

No. Keratin relaxes curl and removes frizz. If you want genuinely straight hair, ask about permanent straightening or rebonding instead.

Can I colour my hair as well?

Yes, but the order matters. Talk to us at the consultation so we sequence it properly.

How is it different from hair botox?

Keratin coats and smooths the outside. Hair botox repairs from the inside. Damaged hair usually wants botox first. Full comparison here.

How soon can I wash it?

It depends on the formula. Your stylist will tell you on the day — following that instruction is the difference between three months and five.
